JoinPad provides free AR solutions for humanitarian relief efforts
In the presence of humanitarian crises due to climate change, pandemics and numerous geopolitical tensions, the question is no longer whether technological innovation can have any role, but how it can be leveraged to meet better the needs of the people affected by a crisis.
The most advanced technologies as AR, VR, AI, and IoT are today within reach of almost the entire global population thanks to the increasing spread of smart devices such as smartphones also in developing countries. Thus, humanitarian aid organizations can rely on innovative digital tools to reach people in need, as well as coordinate their staff, provide support remotely, gather data, and funds in a more effective way. However, since the non-profit sector has limited resources, it is becoming ever more natural for humanitarian organizations to start collaborating with large companies, universities, even startups that can implement and scale new technologies quickly.
In this light, we are just starting a new project aiming at making available Smart Assistance and other digital solutions we develop for free to all NGOs and other humanitarian foundations whenever an emergency happens.
What is Smart Assistance? It is an extremely versatile multiplatform communication tool embedding AI and Augmented Reality technologies, used to connect, share data, and receive support remotely, in a highly interactive and precise way. Smart Assistance can be handy in various scenarios, from the industrial and construction field to the medical and emergency services sectors. It is beneficial, especially when, due to an epidemic as in China, or a political crisis, users cannot leave their house or fly to another country.

In January, we started collaborating with LLVision in China to bring Smart Assistance to hospitals, health workers, and citizens facing the Coronavirus epidemic in Wuhan. The aim is to help doctors prevent and contain the infection by using Smart Assistance to provide remotely an initial diagnosis as well as communicate health measures to the population.
