Anticipations of tomorrows reality
From contact lens to the AR social network, and digital twins
Analysts, entrepreneurs, big and small companies are increasingly exploring the potential of Augmented Reality in business and everyday life.
Pwc has just released a report highlighting the constant growth of immersive technologies for the next ten years, estimating $ 1.5 trillion as added value to the economy. The impact on employment will also be significant, which would see approximately 23 million people working in AR/VR-related fields by 2030.
Even Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, has yet again emphasized the importance of these technologies, claiming that “You rarely have a new technology where business and consumer both see it as key to them. […] I think it’s going to pervade your life”.
In the industrial sector, Augmented Reality will play an essential role in providing the interface that allows people to directly interact with digital twins, i.e., virtual copies of physical corporate assets, which are spreading in the construction, aeronautics, utility fields and lately in the oil and gas sector.
On the consumer side, a new social network based on Augmented Reality has just been launched in the USA allows users to communicate in real-time with friends adding virtual elements while interacting.
And last but not least, Mojo Vision has just presented the new contact lens equipped with a microchip the size of a grain. Is this a sign that we will likely go directly from smartphones to contact lenses without passing through Smart Glasses? The company is still waiting for FDA approval, but the project is highly promising.
