Augmented Reality is steadily rising
Augmented Reality deeply innovates the way we work and interact in the digital era, thus making possible the so-called "Mirrorworld" forecasted by Kevin Kelly.
In the second edition of our State of the ART monthly digest, we cover Microsoft‘s launch of the most advanced mixed reality headset for the enterprise – HoloLens 2 – at MWC 2019. As the world is becoming more immersive, there will be a shift in how information and experiences will be shared, namely we will need AR cloud platforms allowing interaction between real and digital. This new paradigm is what Kevin Kelly theorizes as the “Mirrorworld” in the last issue of Wired. Glimpses of this futuristic world are already all around us: Google is working on a new AR feature for its Maps to improve directions’ clarity; while a group of cutting-edge companies is developing an open AR cloud platform which will enable users to share and superimpose virtual objects on the real world.

Google Maps’ Augmented Reality mode
Google is developing an AR feature for its Maps to better guide users in a big city, usually full of metal buildings which still can sometimes disorient phone’s compass, by superimposing virtual arrows and markers on the real environment. It works in combination with a mobile’s camera and Street View mode. Read on TechCrunch

AR will spark the next big tech platform - call it Mirrorworld
According to Wired‘s founder, Kevin Kelly, soon the entire world will have its virtual copy, therefore we will need a new cloud platform, called “third platform” or “Mirrorworld“, that merges the two realities by means of AR technology. New opportunities will also arise some challenges related to data management and privacy. Read on Wired

The Augmented Reality industry developing enterprise-grade solutions continues to grow. Devices as HoloLens 2 are fundamental enablers of this process creating great benefits for businesses and the entire society: think at surgeons who can operate on patients with image-guided minimally invasive therapies or field engineers who are able to solve an issue in real time through AR remote assistance deployed on Smart Glasses.
Over the next years, Augmented Reality technology is set to make major breakthroughs thanks to the implementation of open AR cloud platforms, supported also by further developments in the AI, IoT, and 5G fields as shown at MWC 2019.
